CH24 Wishbone Chair | Carl Hansen & Son

The famous CH24 chair by Carl Hansen and Son was designed by Hans Wegner in 1949 and has been in continuous production since 1950.
Thanks to the comfort in combination with the beautiful design, the Wishbone Chair, now a design classic, is still very popular.
The precisely designed shape of the backrest with the soft papercord seat that ventilates,
make the CH24 a dining room chair where you can spend a long time for dinner.
The Wishbone Chair is also ideal at the reading table or as a small relaxing armchair.
The gently rounded top, together with the back and seat offers a variety of comfortable seating positions, ideal for
both long visits to the dining table and relaxed lounging.
The very stable and also light construction of the Wishbone Chair makes it easy to move around the dining table and about the room.
Combine the CH24 with the dining tables by Carl Hansen & Son, the dinner tables by Hans J. Wegner CH327, CH337, CH338, CH339 and CH388 are very suitable.

The CH24 Paper cord seat

Hans J. Wegner first used paper cord on his designs back in 1949. He chose this material because it is incredibly durable and also as natural as the wood it was to be weaved around.
The paper cord is treated with a light wax coating prior to weaving in order to make it more resistant to discoloration and grease.
You can choose between natural and black papercord. The natural color is made from pure, unbleached paper from Swedish forests, and the black is dyed prior to weaving. 

The CH24 colours

North Sea Design supplies all colors of the CH24 whishbone chair. The Carl Hansen & Son colors that you can view here are the colors that will be available in 2020.
In addition, Carl Hansen sometimes releases a limited, temporary edition.
Only the beech CH24 is available in all these stylish colors. The black lacquered chair is also available in ash and oak.

The Wishbone Chair in beech wood

The beech trees Carl Hansen uses are also around 150 years old. Beech is lighter than oak but heavier than ash.
Beech has shorter fibers than oak and therefore easier to work with.
It has a very smooth surface and if painted or lacquered, the fibers will not be visible.

The CH24 chair is a triumph of craftsmanship with a simple design and clean lines. Despite the chair's straightforward appearance it takes more than 100 steps to make one Wishbone Chair.
