The Story Behind Unikko

When Marimekko founder Armi Ratia banned floral prints, designer Maija Isola rebelled. Fascinated by the
expressive power of flowers, she created a bold, graphic collection inspired by pop art.
Among them was Unikko (1964), the now‑iconic poppy motif that has remained in continuous production ever since.
