Design Heritage

The Piccolo pattern was created in 1953 by Vuokko Eskolin‑Nurmesniemi, the same year she joined Marimekko. Painted with expressive brushstrokes, the striped design became a modern classic. Just three years later, it appeared on the now‑legendary Jokapoika shirt, securing its place in Marimekko’s design history.
