CH37 | Carl Hansen & Son | North Sea Design
A clean-cut dining chair that's great to sit in, the design of which clearly shows how Wegner was inspired by Shaker* craftsmanship.
The chair is often seen in conference and church use. The seat is beautifully hand woven in sturdy paper cord, either available in unbleached natural or black
The CH37 is a functional and light dining chair whose stringent lines indicate Hans J. Wegner's influence by the Shaker tradition. It can easily be used on its own or matched together with CH36 around a table, for instance the CH327.
The armrests on CH37 are a good example of Hans J. Wegner's honest, straightforward approach to furniture design as the joints where the armrests meets the front leg are clearly visible and an integral part of the chair's expression.
In terms of finish, the CH37 has many possibilities. Beech or oak in soap, oil, lacquer or white oil and, for the beech version, a generous amount of color in which the seat can be spray painted. The visibility of the wood structure is minimal when painted.
Oak is only available in black. The wood structure will be clearly visible.
For this chair the CU-CH37 Cushion in leather (type Loke) is available in golden brown, dark brown, brown, dark red, red, white and black.

* Shaker furniture is a distinctive style of furniture developed by the United Society of Believers in Christ's Second Appearing, commonly known as Shakers, a religious sect that had guiding principles of simplicity, utility and honesty. Their beliefs were reflected in the well-made furniture of minimalist designs. Furniture was made thoughtfully, with functional form and proportion.
