The France Chair was originally designed for the American market in 1956. Despite the chair being one of the few Finn Juhl chairs designed
for industrial production, it can be recognized by its fine details. For example, look at the seat and backrest and how they are lifted from the frame and
to the armrests with the iconic paperknife detail.
Partly due to his collaboration with the Danish furniture manufacturer France & Son, Finn Juhl was on a wave of international success in the 1950s.
C.W.F. France was an English businessman who moved to Denmark in 1936 to start a small mattress factory with furniture maker Eric Daverkosen.
In the fifties, after son James France joined the company, the factory became very successful and the name France & Son was born.
The France Chair is the first ever produced piece of furniture to be delivered flat packed with assembly instructions. This business idea was worked out
by France and was the main driver for its phenomenal success in the American market.
Hence the name of the France Chair.
Nowadays, the armchair is of course fully assembled when delivered.
The France lounge chair has a striking organically shaped wooden frame and the seat and back are upholstered by hand. As a result, the armchair
has a timeless look.

No concessions are possible with regard to the use of materials for the furniture by Finn Juhl. You can count on the best quality in fabrics,
leather and wood.
The Finn Juhl France armchair is available in oak or walnut with upholstery in fabric or exclusive leathers. In addition, this armchair with
upholstery in fabric, can be provided with a leather cushion.
The frame in oak is finished with oil, painted black or smoaked. Walnut has an oiled finish.
You can buy the France Chair online in the best quality leater: Vegetal by Stolz. This is full grain aniline leather from Scandinavian bullhides.
The leather is vegetable tanned accordig to ecological standards.
There are six colors to choose from:natural, brown, wine red, cognac, dark brown and black.

Finn Juhl Organic Danish Design
The Danish modernist Finn Juhl may have been the designer with which organic forms are most visible in his furniture design.
Like other modernist pioneers, Juhl started from scratch with no role models or hereditary limitations.
He designed by measuring and analyzing his own body and how the individual parts of the chair should support the human body.
And unlike his contemporaries, with their streamlined, scaffold-like structures, Juhl strove for a more organic,
natural shape.
The potential strength of the wood was used to the maximum, just like it occurs during the natural growth process of a tree.
As Finn Juhl translated his ideas into bold, smooth joinery where every element of the design flows seamlessly into another,
he also set very high standards for the furniture makers who had to make the design.
The result is visible in beautifully refined, sculptural and iconic work that has been supplied exclusively by House of Finn Juhl
since its restart in 2001.
